The BDC Team
Peter Clancy biography

Originally from Co. Longford, I moved to Dublin in 1987 to attend university and have spent most of the intervening years in the Dublin region, apart from a 5 year period in the mid nineties where home was shared between the diverse locations of Drogheda, Co. Louth, Alabama USA, and Sydney and Perth, Australia.
My primary degree is in Mechanical Engineering from UCD, and I cut my teeth in CRH, initially with Irish Cement in Drogheda, followed by a stint with Roadstone in Dublin, and then another group company in Alabama, USA.
After a year out in Australia, I returned to Ireland in 1998 and got involved in project engineering work in the Pharmaceutical Sector, working for Schering Plough in Co. Wicklow. Within a short period I progressed onto Project Management and a Corporate Quality Programme, and during my time at Schering I also obtained a first class honours MBA from the Smurfit Business School, UCD in 2002.
I soon came to realise that my real career interest was on the business side, and since 2003 I have worked in business roles on the supply side of the Life Sciences Sector, working in Operations, Commercial, General and Business Development Management roles for three indigenous SME’s in the sector over the past 8 years, ranging in size from € 1.5 M to € 30 M turnover. My most recent role was as European Business Development Manager for an extremely successful Automation company employing well over 300 people at 11 offices globally.
Setting up and running my own business has been a goal of mine for several years, and I believe that if the music is in you, you should play it !. Reading BDC’s franchise prospectus was like discovering the missing final piece of a jigsaw. It prompted me to finally take the plunge and start my own business, doing something which I’m passionate about, which matches my experience, but more importantly in an area where there is significant market need, Ireland’s SME Sector.
As far as I’m concerned there’s never a wrong time to do the right thing, and I’m very enthusiastic about the whole project and helping SME’s to close the Sales Gap.
